The festival of lights, Deepavali, holds a unique significance in our culture. It is the festival that teaches us to lose ourselves to spread light, to move from ignorance to knowledge, and to cleanse the impurities of the mind while drawing humanity toward compassion and harmony. It is a festival loved by all — young and old alike.
At Bethany Educational Institution, Bajpe, a special Deepavali program was organized on Tuesday, the 21st October. The program was presented by the students of Grade 6 and Kindergarten.
The event began with a prayer, followed by a welcome and an introduction by the students highlighting the importance of Deepavali. The children then captivated the audience with a graceful dance performance to a poem by Prof. Nissar Ahmed, who perceived the eternal celebration of light in nature.
Two short skits were presented, conveying the messages of overcoming evil tendencies and becoming good individuals, and that our existence should bring light into the lives of others. Beautiful dance performances expressing the peace, equality, and joy of light followed. The program concluded with a theme song about light.
Sister Veena D’Souza, the head of the institution, delivered words of appreciation, emphasizing that the festival of lights — Deepavali — should inspire the spread of peace, equality, brotherhood, and harmony in society, allowing humanity itself to shine with light.
